Dr. Knauf, President and CEO of Eye Site of Tampa Bay, is a board certified ophthalmologist and Chief of Ophthalmology at Morton Plant Hospital. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where he has taught since 1997.
Dr. Knauf is a fellowship-trained surgeon in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery. He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Miami, graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He finished with an advanced cornea fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
His professional expertise includes refractive procedures including LASIK & phakic intraocular lens implantation, with a special emphasis in complex corneal and cataract surgery and anterior segment reconstruction. Dr. Knauf keeps up with the latest techniques in cataract and corneal surgeries, including the use of the femtosecond laser, toric, accommodating, and multifocal lens technology, as well as selective corneal transplant procedures like DSAEK and DALK.
Dr. Knauf has continued to be involved with clinical research where he has participated as principal and sub-investigator for multiple clinical studies. Regionally he is considered a corneal expert and delivers tertiary care-level services for the most complex cases.
Since 2012 he has traveled to Honduras annually to perform corneal transplants, bringing corneas from the United States and donating his time and surgical skills to the underprivileged.
Dr. Knauf is an accomplished pianist and enjoys fishing and boating. He is also a sports enthusiast, supporting Gator football and basketball, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rays, and Lightning.
